Hey Josh! This is a great thing you are doing. I have a quick question. My boyfriend (Tony) strained his groin tonight in a hockey game. They are actually in the finals right now...so not a lot of time for rest. He said that he has pain (7 out of 10) when skating, tightness, a little swelling, but no pain while walking. What are some of the things he can do at home to help with recovery. Will massage be good for it? They will have another game on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday again. Any help would be awesome!
    Thanks in advance,

  2. Howzit, ol'neighbor?
    Good to hear from you...

    Any bruising?

Starting at ~48 hrs from injury, some progressive massage from light/superfiscial to deep as tolerated. Follow with long duration, low intensity stretches, then active movements that are non irrittating. For example, (standing hip extension, and try light active standing hip to the side and back in, REALLY slow and progress as tolerated.

Needs to WARM up way more before skating next. Stretch GENTLY during intermissions and ice the area after the game while in a light stretch position.

Once you are a week out from the final game, or perhaps from the initial injury, I can give you some guidelines to get him back alot quicker.

For now, basically as much as tolerated that is non-irritating is best...also anti-infflmatories.

    Thanks for the question,
    Keep me in the loop...

  3. Jseier,

7/10 pain is pretty bad in my book. I offer extreme caution on return to play so soon...

Thanks so much for replying on a weekend. Always will be my favorite neighbor ; )
    No bruising.
He is possibly in the last playoff of his career...so he will play until his leg falls off. He is stubborn! Good news, he played the whole game tonight. They are tied 1-1 in the series. They play again on Wednesday and then again on Friday. If they win both games....YEAH they win the championship. If they lose...another game on Saturday.
What should he be doing tomorrow. They have the whole day off....resting of course, ice, anti-inflammatories, anything else? As you can see this week is it. We need all the help we can get. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! It is amazing that you have this so we can get help from a REAL professional. All my best!

  5. Just follow the before mentioned guidelines... when he is 1 week out, I can advise a more agressive intervention...let me know when that is and we will cross that road if we need to as we get there...
